That play is on again and its brilliant !
First time ever I've seen the ARTS have a good go at the progressive left- and not before time .
It will be interesting to see what sneer those in power use to try and hold onto power and the prestige of office
The subject is serious and the fruits of the lefts fancies are THERE left out in the cold -where they should have died years ago .
The half baked reactionaries were never destined to be self sustaining. If they hadn't found a drip feed in the public service, their ideas would have died the natural death associated with anything that doesn't work . With taxes they give themselves a right to play with the new method, breaking all the solid rules of sound science They may talk like they are actually operating in the science mould but their theme is moving on and moving fast , so they are not sustainable ( either in ideas or action )
If they didn't hold church meetings and kick our heretics they wouldn't continue to try like Castro to justify being in charge of buildings that are NOW crumbling all around them . They mistargeted evil and ignored the science ; No wonder nothing works when they fiddle with it ; when they allow their own prejudices to rule over those who study the subject properly.
And why are the buildings crumbling?

- our daughters are in trouble
- we are a bunch of wooses , blaming others and projecting immorality on others ( the Muslim banker who wants a favor)
- We are in a haze of pretence, projection and denial : failing to see that other cultures don't respect our so called high morals when we leave our daughters out on the street to find their identity
- those who get funding in the public service do what polys want - the ability to speak freely, operate professionally and study freely is increasingly denied .
We could go on Go see it your self . The only relief , as in life, is to really tell the truth and stand up straight.

Media in denial about the role of religion

Once leading gurus in the media are struggling to understand the forces driving Australasian Politics - partly because they are largely in denial about the role of faith and the nature of moral compasses ; especially where they come from ( partly a science question) .

Whether you accept the Greens or not, there are going to be more Greens and little greens , dark greens and light greens ,Islamists, Vegans Wilkes, Oakeshotts, Xenophons and Feildings . Laugh they might , but even Windsor and Katter are passionate in a way that cynical determinists and the majority of bench warmers in politics can never be .
Adding to the political pressure , our children in Australa cannot cope with the moral relativism that we have imposed on them by sitting on the bench . It doesn't matter whether its the Quaran, The Bible or the Shrink , we ALL sometimes need guidance and our kids will seek it TOO, once they realise that just behaving like" how you feel like or behaving just like animals" ( old nature knows best nonsense) ;when the old nature worship stuff is correctly seen to be not enough. Look at your own family and friends and be honest --maybe the media are too short of both to notice ?No its not really just their problem ( they reflect us) -its a problem for most of us ---that we are a wishy washy lot .

And its no use laughing ( like so many did at Katter) because Wilke is right - Labor has lost" its Moral compass " ( and Libs have great trouble talking to theirs) I know Wilke doesn't see it like I do but thats not the point - the point is reasonable people are increasingly using religious arguments, and rightly so ( helps get your bearings) .
(Katter, for example , got more votes last night from non and informal voters ( I spoke to one this morning ) because whatever he is or is not ( desperados in the school yard always focus on others faults ) he is passionate and honest . Beats the normal panel who just hedge on the ledge.

What do the media think we are - stupid? The tsunami of concern that translated into action against meat exports has much more to do with raw passion than reason . Such passion and prejudice is used by cynical determinists and others to try and move people - its a power game using prejudice and it assumes the public and polys are often easily led . This emotional driver thing is a great truth but very dangerous --the rising anti religion groups in our culture are absolutely correct to identify this danger in post modernism (itself highly reactive) - the new religion of the west . The media , like the public too , fail to identify the unique safety mechanisms within our own system ( goes deeper than 1 vote one value as USA ignorant engagement with Iraq and Africa shows ) - Note : Our intelligentsia haven't sought historically to codify the law --which is itself very dangerous ( until recently-- the dummies seem to be giving into public pressure for reasons given above ) ; freedom of religion out of the Bible is freedom to think for yourself etc

So why aren't the media more able to chase down the truth that they seem to be? - eg when Global cooling is more likely to occur because of Volcanic Ash ( the reality for us geoscientists ) you just can't keep talking about the danger of Co2 without including it ( not done yet ,so this week its the equivalent of the media and media massage merchants with their pants right down ) .

By not taking all views in the first place , the media look careless and partisan, like polys ( see the guy up the back on Qanda) The good reporters just need to interview scientists on thedrum , convos, 7pm report and so on. About time ABCTV and 774 stopped controlling whose heard .

Too many people are afraid to ask the question a child might ask ( they at least are often honest - about really big picture questions) Why did all that ash come to Melbourne and what is it meant to teach us - apart from the fact that we are a lot of self centred grumps .

And that doesn't even include the Dhali Lama who is also saying to those desperately holding to their view of their wonderfully complete world view -that overly reasonbound world of the old greek -- reality is bigger and even better ( strange paradox ) than you think!-- too much for some eh! Don't get left behind. Study the stuff.

Intervention is back on the stage

It may only be an idea in the reactionary driven minds of many in the left but its got momentum - momentum of partial truth that will carry it far .It may sit uncomfortably with the simple reactionary rhetoric of the left bit sit it will . It may just be wind in their minds , but its a wind that s now detemined to win ;

Progressives who specialize in reactionary medicine and who as a result drive new directions have yet to deal with the reason they chose it - let alone ....what it might lead to .

Why? Because letting people do what they like and handing em money JUST doesn't work .Forcing kids to go to schools does - How long will it take the modern parents down south to catch up with the universal truth burned into reality by necessity . in our Northern Territory.

Our PM has been, if nothing else, consistent this week . She's been talking consistently about " what's right' ; its right to set a price for carbon . It s right to do this and it's right to do that ,
Does this mean the left and the greens have finally abandoned their flag called "Morality is bunk " . Is she for real or just playing up to the margins on this .
Will the real Julia stand up ? will the left really stand-up ( after all Labor caucus are implicated here too ) If they don't really believe in the moral high ground that makes them big hypocrites .
maybe, at last we have some ripping open of the issues .
It seems to me that the box is open , the box is big and no amount of woosy "let everyone do what they like talk" by the greens will save them from the obscurity they deserve on many matters of serious public choice and morality.
Greenlabor have had their chance to prove they know what they are talking about and have failed . The Victorian and now NSW 9 this saturadys election ) demonstrate they can't cook for nuts and give sound science ( eg on water conservation) a bad name by always talking about science as if they alone own it - bullsh
Thankfully in the universe we live in the truth matters and the truth is out.

Unless the Greens wake up to themseleves and their simple alliance with the ravages of mere nature they are destined to have a dark ages era as their only lasting legacy . Dark greens don't love science and technology enough to know it and use it . What then about those who do ?

The unecessary negative effect of misapplied worry by non scientists and a desperate media is something progressives should resist. Ignorance driven stuff by the noisy and nosy reduces our children's faith in science and technology and therefore our ability to manage risk and build real resilience .

Its wrong too when people who are not practical try to speak for those that are .A sound knowledge of chemistry and geology limits the extent to which you worry about real disasters and work towards preventing another.

Dark greens don't love science and technology enough to know it and use it . What then about those who do ?

You can tell when a paradigm change is on when quite different, but non radical groups use the same logic to justify their ambitions. How about when those who think of themselves as progressive intellectuals use the same logic as some of the most predjudiced.

Geoffrey Robertson, and those worried by bikie groups are getting distracted by talk of prosecuting institutions when things go wrong. Robertson thinks he can nail the churches bad boys by nailing the church and the NSW govt by nailing the name of bikie groups .Neither dummies know what they are doing.You don't nail evil unless you nail the sin and the person who done it. to do more than that is to play god.
These lawmen are ignoring the limits of law and liberty which makes them more of a worry than their worries .

Such weak and pathe.tic moves will ultimately be seen to be driven by fanaticism,.Meanwhile our society suffers their arrogance and stupidity .
The shallow basis for the current logic is obvious - highly reactionary, culturally retrograde, mistargeted content and ultimately creates more heat than light..........and our ABC can't even see the stupidity that will characterize monday night qanda . Let's put the seniors in jail, and the criminals in a nursing home. This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies, and walks, they'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment , wheel chairs etc. and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly if they fell, or needed assistance. Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes, and bring their meals and snacks to their cell. They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose. They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counseling, pool, and education.
Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, P.J.'s and legal aid would be free, on request. Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard with gardens. Each senior could have a P.C. a T.V. radio, and daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct, that would be strictly adhered to.
The "criminals" would get cold food, be left all alone, and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room, and pay $5000.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out. Justice for all.

Don't give everything away by taking about your own problems

Minister for Environment Gavin Jennings will disapear into history like so many of his crew because they don't know what they are talking about ;
When is he talking to a problem or talking about one of his own making?
Mr Jennings is now Minsiter for environemnt and innovation -
He, Brumby and Cabinet all think they are all great ideas which means they can't see whats really wrong with their approach to governance .
He and cabinet are completely confused . He's an innovator and that's a problem. For those who know his government (to be credible ) need to stop creating new worries and schemes to improve how the system they maladminister work . Haven't they got enough good work to do without thinking of some new form or process to invent .

Cricket - jolly good show mate

What a good thing it was that QandA (ABCTV) ended again in paradigm territory this week with a discussion about Cricket.
Such a relief from the dull decades of longwinded greeks and stale old Abcchurch stuff .
Cricket says something significant about what's good about the West

Tim Wilson might not yet get the point about Cricket , but he's got the point about Labor trying to live the dream of politicaceleste.
I feel for Tim, because for me too, Cricket was both too slow and too dangerous to be taken seriously when I was young . Surely only mad people would stand around on long hot days waiting for that very hard ball to strike them like lightning- as it most surely would. Finally ,with a helmet on and some good advice from my superiors ( above), I have come to really enjoy this wonderful game that is,clearly, at its best with a Test.

What better education revolution could we ask for our young people than to enjoy the game ; To learn what it means to play the ball and not the man ; to learn and know backwards these words( Greg Hunt take note - especially in rediscovering the proper paradigm for the environment) Short term gain - long term pain + vice versa (Hang in there , choose to slap /choose to slag , teamwork, its not about YOU !............)
So many of us ( quite a few on the panel?) are too busy , and too hooked on the religion of works volume rightousness that we forget the powerful and better directed passion that develops with reflection and rest too.
Cricket teaches the impatient, like a nagging mother ( on some long hot summer days) that there is virtue in patient persistence and working together on slowfix.
What a celebration of patience , teamwork and the unexpected win cricket is .There are rewards for waitin.
The West at its best does not model itself on the machine . It respects the rest day and the need for reflection that comes with taking it.
Noone could benefit more for its lessons than some leading members of government ( been too long at abcchurch ?) and on the ABCTV panel on QANDA tonight who need to slow down and work ONLY on the only model that works in the longterm - the one of doing things properly( and using public servants (and not consultants )who have done the hard yards too!) .
As one panelist noted : You can't have 20/20 without learning the game the hard way . You can't have the cake without eating a few dry biscuits first .
Not a game for wimps ! Go get em boys !

There are some great Aussie sayings. I especially like the ones that challenge us to avoid thinking we are so great . "Having a go " is one in that line ."Duck shoving" another .
The great thing about "takes one to know one " is it challenges us to honesty with ourselves . to test the water for projection. .
Fine to use em if it leaves the question open about " whose really got the problem" .The noisy one or the observer?. When the cutting cuts at the idea or the action and not the person, it's food for thought . The glass half full side of the being a realist. Helping us deal with denial is healthy (The tall poppy syndrome and the sledging you can have.)
Richard Dawkins is less convincing than he thinks because he's not aware of what he's doing . Sure you can make money like Dan Brown questioning everything and "having a go" . We rebels ALL agree that words are powerful , but never let us stop using them, carefully . Let the Dan Browns of this world play up to predjudice with the same old same old .
Dawkins psychologist and most of us should be asking " are you in denial about being religious yourself" .( science of the mind rather suggests we all are" religous") ABCnews of the grand conference of Atheists in Melbourne this week focused on what looked like denial ( I'm not vehement am i?" ) Sound sustainability scientists accept the role of aggression, and are not in denial about it .
And what seems worse on the convincing stakes is having Peter Singer as second fiddle .; Surely the man has spent more time chasing reactionary trams than any old greeks we know .
Finally they talk a lot of hot air about evidence.

-Evidence from History ; need to be more careful who sits in the back row of congregations of people who think they should be allowed to do their own thing . As a risk management scientist its always fascinated me how non scientists easily fall for the latest gadgets. PRESS HERE and IT ALL HAPPENS .
"SHOW ME THE BUTTON" they say. Another matter for another time .Boys toys?
Philosophers of science point to the clear dangers of technological fix, but like most of us scientists these days, pointing isn't enough . You need cooercion, strangulation and media control to be heard and even then, you wonder .
The noisy ones just say "scientists say " and say the bits they wanna say ; the bits they "agree with" ; the bits they" understand".

One thing is certain, The wannebes will grab the new image and and run with it , forgeting to read the instruction sheet and leaving us without the surplus we need to dream and act more sustain-ably .
Scientists and technologists should unite

Nothing better illustrates the danger of the moment, to my mind , than the force of strategy documents over real decisionmaking; the idea that a table in a book can make a better decsion than the examination of the specific issues on the ground .
The situation is so seriuos in local government that I have suggested locally that we stop wasting money on having planners in council and just get the administrators and ever present CEO to act out the strategy documents - that way everybody wins.
We don't waste time weighing real risks on the site when those further away can make decsions easier by simply refreing to the stragety diocument - Decision making made easy --remote control ......at its best?

Hockey's "Peace in our time" speech

Joe Hockey, just this week, made a speech to the Sydney Institute and responded to David Maher on QandA in a way that many thoughtful Australians would welcome . Joe , bless his socks, tried to set the record straight. Talk about God is important to many Australians and a constant focus on "the fanatics on the other side" is not helpful.

In doing so, Hocking had to be blunt about myths the ABC constantly like to cultivate. Good on him. Maher was angry -perhaps he thought QandA was a regular church meeting?

You may not like your Bible bashing neighbour, but as that much more balanced show, the Simpsons, shows, he is there, and he doesn't go away. Maybe your weird neighbour is in fact no more stupid or irrational than any other member of any large world view group are .Everyone is pretty stupid on the Simpsons and thats part of its healthy, reality based humor. ( Test the facts- not the TVimages, in your own backyard). You may not always like your nagging wife, but she loves you more than anyone else?

No David , while many at the ABC maybe at church most days of the week, busily weeding out bytes that would make the opposition seem reasonable , we are not a secular society, and people of faith are not all unreasonable; some of them lead the most powerful nations just as they did after Diocletion failed to be able to ban the world of Christians by trying to burn every last one of them . Diocletian too, we presume, thought there weren't many of them, and that only mad people would fall for "that stuff". They were members of his cabinet and they went there by choice.

Just like all thinking people, thinking Christians ( you may never seem to see em on ABCTV but they do exist - see Lilies ) wonder how the early stories of Genesis can match up to the things they know. For some of us scientists, its the meaning of "days", or the not so thriving disabilities we are forced to live with, or the really tough apparently indisciminatory pressures that seem to push us to excuse ourselves from freedom.
To say God loves is indeed only something God can say , because it doesn't often appear that way to us . It is His grand call and you can take or leave it . The discussion is not about something we think ( religion ); its about what God is , and whether we should indeed respect Him/Her/ all 3.
The story, if not ALL the facts, are pretty clear in all those books - so clear that it is agreed by nearly all today, as it was then, to say "that's enough, that's sufficient ".. in the 3rd century. No more is needed to establish the story - take it or leave it - If only the great global warning salvation story was as simple?
David Maher, the high priests of secular determinism, as well as the creation apologists, need to realise that science provides no final proof in either case.
More importantly, as the famous scientist A.N. Whitehead pointed out in relation to the still very relevant disease of "misplaced concreteness" , the medias attempt to control facts and impressions destroys their own usefulness in public reflection and education; The philosophical advocates case is destroyed by indulging in brilliant feats of explaining away . No such simplicities are acceptable to many scientists and free thinkers; neither should they be; Neither should such distortion be at home at our ABC.

I use the term "peace in our time" because the dialog is anything from finished . The Libs have a long way to go before they find home.
Many of those bible thumping churchmen who annoyingly tried to convince Chamberlain that he didn't know how to deal with the coming evil, would have gladly given their lives , and even their unwelcome" sermons", if only leaders would have taken their direct , practical and down to earth warnings seriously.

There is no escape from the truth in the outstanding film JUMP (2007) ***** By telling the true story of Phillipe Halsman, we ride the rough road of anger , frustration, unfairness, deliberate personal destructiveness and prejudice together.
The scary thing is that many of the real participants in this real life drama were not at war, but were destined to let it happen by their weakness. Are we any different ? Jumping to conclusions about others ?
On the very positive side , I hope you will find the last few films listed here really helpful/enjoyable for your family viewing. Like all the best literature, there is no shurking of the evil lurking on both shoulders .

A revolution in management is coming

We think that its time to talk about really works in management . That way people won't be so easily confused by all this irregular worship of the CEO .
Its simple, instead of the focus on one you remind your failing friends group that true leadership requires us to work together in more than name only . We are the 3 amigos .
The 3 amigos with the 3 agendas .And note the three are all focused down not up . On responses not directives . On response ability NOT response agility
The President - to direct traffic esp from those who execute the functions of the org
The Secretary - whose clear job is to hear the traffic and record the responses
The Treasurer Whose clear job is to ensure that all participants know what is really happening on the bottom line

The 3 must meet and the 3 must greet - how many institutions do you are failiang because these simple roles are not taken seriuosly.
How many institutions do you know that are failing because the president thinks its his job to direct action not traffic .
How many institutions do you know that are failing simply because there is confusion over what the roles are with responsible governance? . Tell us more .

You realise ,of course, the nature of this revolution don't you ? Coming back to where we started .Where we never have to leave home again .

Australian men are indeed afraid of emotion - listening to your mother and wife scream is infact important. While I welcome the focus on the pointy end, the conservatives still give the dollar to the wrong accountability groups simply because they prefer simplicity. They like to focus on the sweets rather than the substance . Our leaders still get lulled into a sense of false comfort by the mere mention of the word "enterprise" , unaware of the high risk of isolation rather than integration-
The left hand does not knowesth what the right handeth doeth .The nurse and the CEO talk different languages. One offers jam, the other talks about uneccesary jagged edges, and how to avoid them .
Government is not business and true accountability ( Minister to Department) is still the key to sore prevention,stable and sustainable and more satisfying staffing .
All the other expensive rubbish their revived quango theology has created in the last couple of decsdes will keep coming back to bite them big time- the waste is the current governments creation ---not neccesarily the goodwill and volunteer groups-groups who one presumes still get little money for propaganda purposes.

The left's commitment to reactionary politics is childish .There is a lot of good in our culture- the challenge is to find it amongst the barrage of cynical reactionary stuff that has been so much part of the 60's generation idea of news since then .

Time these wannabe influential people grew up and agnowledged some basic ecological facts . After all its broadly "the West"that anticipates plans and prevents. There would have lots less casualties from a tsunami if it happened in the Pacific.
